The Grant County Court has consistently failed our community.
The level of incompetence displayed by Judge Scott Myers is putting our community at risk. Our population continues to decline. Funds are mismanaged. Lawsuits abound. County staff are leaving. Our residents lack adequate housing. We are losing basic services and missing out on economic opportunities. He refuses to invest in real solutions. It's time for a change in leadership.
Judge Myers, Commissioner Hamsher and Commissioner Palmer have lost some of the County's most qualified and experienced staff. Why? Because they do not have confidence in their leadership. The County's financial mismanagement has led to a sense of insecurity and a lack of confidence in the current Court's decision making and administrative abilities.
Hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars have been misspent, or otherwise unaccounted for. COVID relief funds were spent on unauthorized uses in excess of approved budgets. County staff spent years on paid administrative leave. Transient Lodging Taxes went unaudited and unreported for nearly a decade. Millions of dollars supposed to help secure rural schools and roads have been hoarded away needlessly while roads and bridges crumble around us and school enrollment continues to decline.
The Court has refused to answer public records requests, failed to account for lost revenue and resources, and refuses to explain how unauthorized decisions made outside of public meetings were arrived at, or subsequently ratified, without public involvement.
Judge Myers has consistently refused to meet with other duly elected officials. He has declined to respond to resident emails. He is frequently found outside of court on personal business during normal work hours. He has shirked his responsibilities as County Judge.
The County Court's gross incompetence is self-evident. They have lost the confidence and trust of their staff, department heads and other elected officials in the county.
Judge Myers's obvious bias against the City of John Day violates his oath of office. He has refused to meet with the John Day city council on multiple occasions, citing the need for legal reviews that were both unnecessary and never followed up on. He makes excuses for his bad behavior and pawns it off on made up insults that were never intended.
Multiple lawsuits have been filed against Grant County for failure to follow basic procedures in personnel management, including wrongful termination, inconsistent implementation of internal policies, and general confusion in providing staff guidance throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
If we join together and make our voices heard, we can fight for the change we want to see!
Voting serves all of us. Thank you for your commitment.
